About OCRider
My name is Michael Remillard. I ride a Honda Shadow 750. I live in Dana Point California. Here in Orange County the average temperature is about 70 degrees all year long so virtually everyday is a good day to ride and I try to ride a lot…
I started this blog as way to chronicle my experiences on my bike, share thoughts on equipment, accessories and the overall experience of being a motorcycle rider with other folks and especially other riders and those toying with the idea of getting a bike.
Here is the Reader Digest version of how I came to be a “Biker”
On November 1st 2008 I bought a 2008 Honda Shadow Aero 750. Also known as the VT750. I had only ridden a motorcycle once before. When I was 21 I bought a Kawasaki KZ 400 before even knowing how to ride the thing. After laying it down twice within two weeks (once on the freeway) I sold it and hadn’t ridden since.
Call it a mid-life crisis, call it time for a change, call it happenstance, I don’t know but back in August 2008 I got this wild hair that I wanted to ride.
I am a web designer/consultant/marketing manager. I had a client that needed some web work done and didn’t have the cash. I traded my services for his two month old Lance GS-R 150cc Scooter. I rode it for two months and I was hooked. If you ride, what came next is no surprise, I wanted something bigger hence The Shadow.
The Shadow came highly recommended and had 5 star reviews across the board. It’s a cruiser, an old man’s bike as I like to call it but what the hell, I’m an old man. Well I’m old compared to the kids you see on the crotch rockets splitting the diamond lane on the freeway at 120 mph.
My shadow is a great bike and while some may say that a Honda is not as hip as a Harley, I’ve got no complaints.
I ride to work nearly everyday 50 miles round-trip from Dana Point, Ca to Irvine and back. On weekends I try and take longer rides. I don’t much go for riding out to some of the more popular local hang outs where the weekend “bikers” go, sit around and drink beer or coffee and admire their bikes. I like to get into the wind and put some miles on.
In three short months I’ve put 5000 miles on the bike. The blog idea came as a suggestion from my brother Greg. I thought is sounded good and so here it is.
I hope you enjoy it. I hope that some of the posts are informative and please feel free to comment.
